A little rumor circled the intertubes a few days ago about the new 40GB PlayStation 3 models having a newer 65mn Cell processor instead of the 90nm ones. Turns out that’s not the case after all - a Sony spokesperson told Heise Online that the 40GB model is still using the 90nm processors but with an updated design that does indeed lower power consumption from 200 watts to ~135 watts.
The spokesperson also confirmed that Sony is still planning to make the move from 90nm to 65nm sometime in the future.
