The reviews for Infinity Ward’s next big first-person shooter — Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare — have started to pour in. And you won’t find a score lower than 9/10 in the bunch. It’s safe to say that just like predicted, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a serious Game of the Year nominee and will likely receive the award from a number of publications.
After you’ve done reading these snippets, there’s a GameTrailers video review waiting for you after the break.
GamesRadar [9/10, PS3] : “Every other mission features a magnificent setpiece or iconic sight: a fleet of helicopters cruising in over the coast of “the Middle East”; a lattice of infra-red beams cutting up the green sky when you flick your nightvision on in a city skirmish; and the bloody sniper massacre beneath the rusting Ferris wheel at Pripyat – firmly CoD4’s Pegasus Bridge moment.”
GameDaily [10/10, PS3] : “Unimaginable and lifelike presentation, refined gameplay that follows a tried-and-true formula, a multiplayer mode as in-depth (if not deeper) than the powerful single-player campaign — and with that, we conclude by saying “wow”. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare does so much right that it’s hard not to give it a ten.”
GameZone [9.6/10, Outstanding Award, PS3]: “..grabs players by the throat and immerses them in the scenarios in a seemingly effortless manner. You will be drawn into the story, whether running the gauntlet as MacTavish or wondering how you are going to survive the onslaught of AK-47 toting fanaticism in the Middle East.”
1UP [9.5/10, PS3] : “With proven mechanics, brilliant visuals and sound, a satisfying campaign, and robust multiplayer, COD4 is one of the best FPS packages of the year — no small feat, considering the competition.”
GamePro [5/5, Editor’s Choice, Xbox 360]: “From the amazing graphics to the intense and compelling single-player campaign to the feature loaded and addictive multiplayer, this game has it all.”
IGN [9.4/10, Editor’s Choice Award, Xbox 360]: “Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is a fantastic game. The single-player experience is easily Infinity Ward’s best work to date. Calling it intense may be an understatement.”
