This has been a long time coming - DivX has announced that their tech will be integrated into PlayStation 3, making DivX video playback possible on the PS3.
Over 100 million DivX Certified products have been shipped into the market, and the company expects the PS3 will significantly expand that number.
Kevin Hell, CEO of DivX, Inc.: “We are excited to work with Sony Computer Entertainment to bring DivX to PS3. Our technology will expand the multimedia functionality of PS3 by enabling users to enjoy access to the broad library of content in the DivX digital media format.”
The ability to enjoy DivX playback on the PS3 will be made available via a separate system software update at a yet unspecified date.
With PS3 having DivX functionality, it’s fairly safe to say Xbox 360 won’t be far behind.

“With PS3 having DivX functionality, it’s fairly safe to say Xbox 360 won’t be far behind.” you so sure about that? Microsoft likes people to use their formats =/

True. But this is something users have been wanting for ever since the 360 was launched. I think it would be a really bad call for Microsoft not to support it. If they don’t, it would turn into a huge argument against them when they talk about the 360 being a superior home entertainment system.
