Ubisoft UK boss: new IP can live and prosper
BY Rain Anderson Nov. 23rd, 2007

In its first week in the UK, Assassin’s Creed immediately topped the sales chart by stealing the number one spot from Activision’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. This, Ubisoft UK’s main man Rob Cooper said, proves that a new intellectual property can still be a huge commercial success these days.

“I think the success worldwide of Assassin’s Creed absolutely proves that new IP can live and prosper within the sequel and licensed based competition. The industry is crying out for new and compelling content and we’re delighted that AC has lived up to its expectations,” Cooper told MCV.

This of course has already been proven several times this year by developers of titles like BioShock and Crysis for example. And with Mass Effect releasing in the UK today, it’s likely it will do some chart topping of its own that will reflect in next week’s charts.

Now if only more developers would see the light, take the leap and create something fresh and unique.
