Valve not done with Half-Life after Episode Three |

Half-Life fans have reason to rejoice as Valve’s Marketing Director Doug Lombardi has confirmed that there will be more Half-Life goodness after Half-Life 2 Episode 3 (no release date yet) is out the door. When asked if Valve has any plans to continue the franchise beyond Episode 3 and have a Half Life 3, Lombardi replied: “We haven’t announced anything specific, but Half-Life won’t end at Episode Three – hang on to your crowbars!”
While most gaming sites and blogs seem to be taking this recent news as a confirmation for Half-Life 3, Valve could very well be planning a Half-Life MMO for all we know. One thing is for sure though - Valve is not done with Half-Life.
Lombardi has previously hinted that there will be more after Episode 3 also. In an interview earlier this year about the progress of Episode 3, he said: “I don’t think you’ll head back to City 17, for sure. Not in Episode Three, anyway.”

Not a surprise really. But they’d better have a new engine for HL3 or whatever it’s going to be. Source is really starting to show its age.

False, Go play halflife 2 again with settings maxed and you’ll see that it still kicks the shit out of most games currently released and its now old. All they need to do is tweak/update the source engine. No need to spend another 6-8 years developing a whole new engine, after HL3 that would be expected but not neccessary beforehand.

I agree that Source might be showing its age but for me, it’s more in Left 4 Dead rather than Half Life 2. I could still go back and play Half Life 2 and think it’s gorgeous. I just wish they’d release more info for HL2: Ep 3.

I just reloaded halflife2 episode 2 with my newly acquired ATI 4870. I hadn’t played it in years and wanted to see what it would look like with everything maxed out. All I can say is WOW!!! It is a whole new game. I see no need for a new engine at this point for visuals. Secondly, it IS about the gameplay. I am sure they are working on a new engine currently but whether it is available by the time HL2 episode 3 is released is not important. It wont hurt their sales one bit.
