The rumor of Crysis coming to other systems has been around for as long we’ve known of Crysis’ existence. And now that the PC version is out the door and accompanied by some rather glowing reviews, it’s time to once again revisit the good old rumor of Crysis coming to Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
It’s been discovered that a game store in Austria is displaying the Xbox 360 version of Crysis with the release date of November 20th 2008 in their online store. While there has been no official announcement of any kind, don’t be too surprised if this pans out. It’s no secret that CryENGINE2 can run on multiple platforms and Crytek’s CEO Cevat Yerli has already stated that Crysis coming to consoles could very well happen, just not in the form it was released on PC.
But if it indeed ends up happening, who will develop the console versions ? With Crytek already busy working on the second game in the Crysis trilogy as well as a new intellectual property powered by CryENGINE2, will the development of the console versions be handed off to someone else ? EA was the publisher and has developed console versions of another developers’ titles it’s published before. So could it be ? Could EA possibly take over the development of the console versions if Crysis does indeed end up being released on consoles?
