Tomb Raider: Underworld delayed
BY Rain AndersonJanuary 10th, 2008 More on:

The parent company of Eidos Interactive, SCi, has sent out a statement announcing the termination of takeover talks the company initiated last year. While several companies were interested — including Time Warner and an unnamed Chinese firm — no formal offer was received in appropriate time.

“The Board no longer believes that a sale of the company for its full value is likely to be achieved at the current time, and has reached the view that it is not in the company’s or its shareholders’ interests to prolong these discussions further and therefore offer related discussions have been terminated today.”

The statement also revealed that the company has pushed back the release of Tomb Raider Underworld which will now be released during the ‘08 holidays instead of the previously planned summer period, likely taking a fiscal 2008 operating loss. But the company expects the multi-platform launch (the game will be released on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Playstation 2, DS and Wii) to optimize the long-term value of the franchise.
