A demo for Turok has popped up on Xbox LIVE. The behemoth weights in at 1.17GB and gives a little taste of what the singleplayer will be like.
Dashboard description: “Turok is an epic, story-driven first-person shooter set on a dark, mysterious planet in the future. Players take on the role of Joseph Turok, a former black ops commando, now part of an elite special forces squad, known as Whiskey Company, which is on a mission to take down a war criminal – Turok’s former mentor, Roland Kane. While Whiskey Company is traveling to the genetically altered planet inhabited by Kane and his soldiers, Whiskey Company’s ship is shot down. Turok must use his elite military training to elude Kane’s well-trained army, known as Mendel-Gruman, and the ravenous, unpredictable dinosaurs, huge insects and other massive creatures that populate the dangerous environment. Turok’s mission? Survive at all costs.”
But wait, there’s some bad news too. You won’t be getting this demo through LIVE if you live in North America, apparently because of an exclusivity deal with the Official Xbox Magazine. We can’t confirm this, but a user over at nV News Forums has posted the following quote from an unknown site: “Due to an exclusivity deal with the North American Official Xbox Magazine, the Turok demo will not be on the U.S. Live Marketplace any time soon.”
If true, then that’s absolutely ridiculous. Although developers are under no obligation to release demos, it would certainly be nice that everyone gets a fair treatment when they do.
For now, the demo is available in: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and United Kingdom.
No news on the PC/PS3 demos yet but perhaps we’ll get a little surprise when the weekly PlayStation Store update arrives on Thursday.
