BY Rain Anderson Jan. 24th, 2008

Nintendo has announced that Wii has now sold over 20 million units worldwide since its launch a little over a year ago. That’s 8.85 million in North/South America, 4.99 million in Japan and 6.30 million elsewhere. And keep in mind, that’s with constant shortage issues.

Software titles like Wii Fit, Super Mario Galaxy and Mario Party 8 all enjoyed robust sales while Wii Sports and Wii Play continued their strong sales performance as well.

The company is also reporting that DS has sold over 64 million units worldwide - 20.18 million in North/South America, 21.66 million in Japan and 22.94 million elsewhere.

Last years software sales were led by The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass and Mario Party DS. Pokémon Diamond, Pokémon Pearl and Brain Age 2: More Training in Minutes a Day also did very well.

As a result, net sales were 1,316.4 billion yen (up 84.7% y/y), operating income was 394 billion yen (up 135.1% y/y), income before income taxes and extraordinary items was 430.8 billion yen (up 95.2% y/y), and net income was 258.9 billion yen (up 96.3% y/y), respectively.
