According to a press release sent out by the folks over at polish-based CD Projekt RED, their award winning debut role-playing epic The Witcher, based off of the world created in the books of Andrzej Sapkowski, has surpassed the 600,000 units sold mark. This is exceptional news for publisher Atari, who some wondered, due to financial woes, what the future might hold for the inventors of the home console market.

Given the current climate in PC gaming The Witcher’s success should be looked at as a very promising sign. That an unknown IP, released amongst such massive heavyweights as COD4 and The Orange Box can flourish must mean something. The Witcher also received praise recently as the only PC-exclusive game not named “WOW” to be recognized in Forbes.com’s 10 Future Classic Games list. With a Metacritic score of 8.1, it’s safe to say that The Witcher is a hit both critically and commercially.

For those of you out of the loop, the Witcher is a fascinating game based around an intricate plot, a dynamic combat system, tons of emotional morality- based decision making, and prostitutes!!!!

Sounds good to me!
