Aliens game gets detailed, includes 4-player co-op

Sega has finally sent out some details about the Gearbox-developed Alien game they’ve been hiding. The title of the game is confirmed to be Aliens: Colonial Marines, and it will be available late this year on PC, PS3 and the 360.

The game is a story driven squad-based first-person shooter where you play as a squad member of the United States Colonial Marines, and you’ll have to make your way through a game world that Sega is promising will “retain the atmospheric look and feel of the original films while leveraging next-generation technology to create an entirely new interactive Aliens experience.”

Thanks to the 4-player co-op, you and three of your buddies can go through the game together, each having a specific role to play in the completion of every mission. There will be a multi-player component as well, but that’s being kept a secret for now.

The story will be handled by Bradley Thompson and David Weddle, both of whom have worked on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and the new Battlestar Galactica by the way.

Colonial Marines is the cover story of the latest GameInformer, which means some scans showing what are presumed to be screenshots have made their way online, although they look a bit too good to be actual in-game graphics. But we’ll hold out on final judgment until we see some real screenshots.
