Even Blu-ray not big enough to hold all of Snake
BY Rain AndersonMarch 2nd, 2008

Kojima has went and crushed any hope 360 owners might have had left that PS3’s summer blockbuster would appear on their console of choice. Hideo Kojima, the creator of the series, has said in an interview that even the 50GB Blu-ray disc wasn’t big enough to fit their needs, and that they had to make a few compromises to get the stuff they needed to fit on the disc.

Unthinkable compromises like having the programmers compress some parts in the game so they wouldn’t take up that much space.

As translated by an N4G user:
Kojima: I am not satisfied with the quality yet, however…there isn’t enough space.
Interviewer: Not enough space..on..Blu-ray..?
Kojima: Yes.(laughs). Not enough space.

Holy!! Can’t fit on to a Blu Ray disk! How much space does it need?

Let’s brace ourselves for a 10 hour installation.
But come on, 50GB worth of assets ? With those textures ? I don’t think they paid ANY attention to file sizes at all. You can save a 100KB photo as a 10MB photo too, though the quality remains the same.

Anyway, the game better be real epic, but from what we’ve seen so far though is the same gray textures and locations all over again.

I agree with you Warhawker, I don’t believe the game requires that much space. If I were to guess Sony asked him to plug Blu-Ray a little and not wanting to sound like a TV commercial, made that tiny little comment and it set the Internet on fire.
