In June the long, very long, awaited release of Sony’s “Killer App” for the PS3, Metal Gear Solid 4 will fill our hearts with glee and our wallets with sixty less dollars. But for Metal Gear fans, what is there to do until June? Well, yesterday Konami released a box set which includes all three previous Metal Gear games: Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence, all for only $29.99USD. Beware though, after taking a quick trip to the Gamestop website I noticed several disclaimers:

  • Metal Gear Solid is in the Original Playstation Black Disc format. If playing on a PlayStation 2 system, you WILL need an Original Playstation memory card in order to save your progress.
  • Metal Gear Solid is backwards compatible and has the ability to save on ANY PlayStation 3 system.
  • “Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance” and “Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence” are only backwards compatible on 20GB, 60GB and 80GB PlayStation 3 Systems.

For those of us who don’t own a PS3, finding a PS1 memory card is going to be the biggest challenge. But if these disclaimers don’t worry you, and you are looking for something to catch you up on all the latest happenings in the MGS universe, then this set should keep you plenty busy till June.
