This isn’t an article about the new World of Warcraft expansion, or a new map on Call of Duty 4. This might not be game news, but this is news I believe everyone should know about. If one was to define a “Scape Goat” then you would have to put videogames in the list as being its number one partner. But some people keep raising the bar higher. We wonder why politicians and parents come down so hard on videogames? It’s because there is a percentage of gamers out there who have no common sense and douse the fire with gasoline. The newest story to the long list of “Violence and Videogames”.
Tyrone Spellman, 27, of Philadelphia, killed Alayiah Turman with at least five blows to the head, prosecutors said. The force of the blows cracked the toddler’s skull several times. It’s said that he killed his 17- month old daughter in a fit of rage because of a broken Xbox. His sentence? Two decades in prison. I will agree with all of you by saying “Thats It?” No death sentence? No firing squad? Knowing that someone can do that to a small child boggles my mind. I honestly think there is no one out there who believes this is a good enough sentence. I will hold my tongue and keep this article clean. (Self-control, the exertion of one’s own will on their personal self – their behaviors, actions, thought processes.)
Videogames may cause one to get so much adrenaline that he might get a little upset. But until people who play videogames act upon that, politicians/parents/anyone will never leave videogames alone. Next time you get angry because someone is fragging you too hard, don’t break the controller/mouse but take a break from the game, stretch your legs and get some fresh air. *end lecture*
