3rd party Wii games that sold a million

Games on their way to becoming Million Sellers…

ninty1mil-08.jpgResident Evil: Umbrella Chronicles (900k)

Developer: Capcom
Publisher: Capcom

When hardcore gamers first learned that Umbrella Chronicles was to be a light-gun game, internet forums all over the web very nearly burst with indignation. Capcom eventually won them over with copious amounts of fan service and cooperative play with a surprisingly fun and meaty title.

ninty1mil-09.jpg LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga (900k)

Developer: Traveler’s Tales
Publisher: LucasArts

LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga has become a permanent fixture in the U.S. sales chart since its release in Nov ‘07. Quality and value are clearly the main draws here, and the title’s success should lead to Traveler’s Tales investing real effort in Wii versions of their two upcoming LEGO games.

ninty1mil-10.jpgMySims (850k)

Developer: EA
Publisher: EA

It’s interesting to compare the fates of two original IPs created by EA for Wii and released within a month of each other: MySims and Boogie. One was a poorly conceived casual waggle-fest that bombed at retail, and the other was an intelligent re-imagining of a popular series that is now quickly approaching a million sales. There’s definitely a lesson here.

I wanted MySims to be so much more than it was — it was dumbed down too much from the original Sims concept, and should’ve borrowed a little more from Animal Crossing. There are too many occasions in the game where nothing is really going on, as you’re waiting to unlock new areas to explore. A sequel with more variety, more freedom and online play would be sweet, so I’m hoping this one breaks the million-sold mark.

Both Madden and Tiger Woods ‘07 were strong sellers, but didn’t quite approach the million mark, Pro Evo has a great chance though,

Eh, they always get it wrong… the official sales numbers for Resident Evil : The Umbrella Chronicles were 950,000 units sold. And that was like numbers from several weeks ago. And I’m not talking about vgchartz estimates either but real numbers from Capcom.

Capcom has shipped 1 million copies of the game to date.

So I think Rain Anderson rocks, and I am most looking forward to the sale of Rock Band and how they utilize it for the Wii. Let’s see if that soon makes the list and tops Guitar Hero III.

Red Steel rocks. It has its fair share of problems, but, as a rushed launch title (and first FPS to try these kind of controls), it is awsome.
It has style, the score is great, the single player is well paced, it still is one of the best looking Wii games and, after you get used with the control flaws, it’s a great game. Even the multiplayer can be fun.

Wii Mario should be huge for Wii. DS version still sells very well even now.
