People were a bit stumped when Harmonix seemed to overlook Wii for a version of Rock Band, considering the system and its success on the market. Then there was the announcement that the game was indeed coming to Nintendo’s system, but they didn’t say when. Well, MTV just announced the release date, it’s June 22nd in case you want to mark it on your calendar.

The Wii version will include 63 songs, five of them bonus song for the Wii version, and be released as a special edition bundle that will include drums, microphone, and a wireless guitar. And in case you break a few things, you’ll also be able to purchase the instruments separately as well.

Seems MTV woke up and smelled the profit potential with Bob Picunko, Vice President of Electronic Games and Interactive Products saying: “The Wii’s success among casual and core gamers of all ages makes it an ideal match for the cross-generational appeal of the music featured in Rock Band.”

Yeah, and I’m sure the fact that they’ll probably sell a couple million copies won’t hurt either.
