This fall, the big guns really are coming out to play. Regardless of your console preference, you’ll be happy to know that some of the most ambitious games launch as the leaves turn and fall. Amongst a plethora of system-exclusives like Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and Gears of War 2, Ubisoft’s Far Cry 2 will simultaneously launch on PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. Although a precise date has not been ironed out, Ubisoft clearly wants to go toe to toe with the biggest games of the fall. Ubi recently confirmed a fall 2008 release and will soon let loose a media storm of previews, exclusives, etc.
Far Cry 2 been in development limbo for what seems like an eternity. Firstly, it should be clarified that developer Crytek is not working on Far Cry’s successor, but rather the crack team at Ubisoft Montreal, whose fabulous work includes Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell, Rainbow Six, and Assassin’s Creed. Far Cry 2 looks to be in good hands, and promises to live up to the lofty expectations of its predecessor. Taking place in the sweltering African veldt, Ubisoft’s newest will allow gamers to tackle missions their own way. Vehicles, guns, and stealth will no doubt be key, but Ubi is pushing the bounds of graphics and intensity. Fire will spread and consume the dry grass and dynamic weather systems will be both dazzling and crucial to successful planning. We are just itching to get our paws on any version of this remarkable shooter. Don’t worry about Ubi cutting corners like the did with previous Far Cry entries; this time, all versions are nearly identical.
As soon as Ubisoft shows more of Far Cry 2, you’ll see it here. Fall 2008 looks to be an exciting season for hardcore gamers everywhere.
