Rock Band’s UK release dated
BY Thom DinsdaleApril 8th, 2008 More on:

If you’re like me and want to live out all your rockstar fantasies but don’t have the time or talent then fear not, because EA has announced that Rock Band will be making its UK debut on May 23rd. That is unless, of course, you own any console other than a 360. In which case you’re going to have to wait a little longer as Microsoft has got its hands on a timed exclusive and will be sure to make the best of it.

The game sets itself up as direct competition to Activision’s Guitar Hero. What separates the two is that Rock Band claims to offer the entire ensemble experience, including guitars, drums and vocals. So basically you can kid yourself about your musical prowess in the company of friends and family.

It seems Activision has anticipated this announcement and as a result there has been an extensive TV advertising campaign for Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock in hope of diverting attention and soaking up the potential user base before Rock Band hits shelves.

Rock Band is rated 12+ by PEGI. Presumably because of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll.

Two things that the author may have not known about when writing this, the game will come in two installments. One for the game itself which runs GBP 49.99 and another for the drum kit, a guitar and a microphone for GBP 129.99. That runs it up to a total of GBP 180 - that’s $378 (yes. $378).

I know that Europe usually has things a tad more expensive but damn!

On play.com you can get them both which will end up at £140 which still seems too much. It hurts me to say but I will probably wait because even stretching to that allows EA to get away with such action in the future. It has got a lot of people angry, also to add insult to injury people other than 360 owners will have to wait a bit longer, oh yeah and the EU release is only in UK, Germany and France too.
I think I am going to wait a while to see if there is a price drop, it sounds hard to do, but GTA4 is due for release so that will keep me going for a while.
Quite alot of people are thinking about getting the instrument kit imported and buying the PAL game here.
I wonder what EA have to say to justify this price.
