THQ today announced an agreement with TEAM 17 to bring its next installment in the successful Worms series to mobile phones this June. Whilst being an entirely new game, Worms 2008 A Space Oddity remains true to the formula of the original games, so expect tongue in cheek humor and surreal weaponry galore.

Debuting in Worms 2008 is a new AI system that allows enemy worms to determine the greatest threats, navigate the landscape and unleash a variety of weapons. The new game will also feature new mini-games, an enhanced single-player campaign and a new terrain viewing mode.

The new viewing mode will allow players to switch between a landscape and portrait view, enabling them to see more of the terrain as though they were playing on a widescreen. Forgive me for sounding cynical, but I don’t think switching the screen around is going compensate for the fact you’re playing on a two inch monitor that’s bouncing around in your hand as you stand on the train.

Worms 2008 will be made available on over 850 models of mobile phone this June.
