Batman and Sub-Zero duke it out
BY Jeremy HillApril 18th, 2008 More on:

As promised earlier, more content for the upcoming Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe title has been placed on the interweb. This trailer features Batman taking on Sub-Zero in what can only be described as just plain cool.

MK creator Ed Boon explained the plot in a recent interview. The game’s story takes in two perspectives. On one hand, you have MK characters against invading DC characters, and DC characters against invading MK characters on the other. Something supernatural happens that collides the two worlds together. As a result of this, some of the stronger characters like Superman have become vulnerable to normal attacks. Some of the more normal characters have gotten stronger to take on their god like opponents.

So far the only four officially announced characters that will make an appearance are Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Superman, and Batman. As the trailer suggests, there will be a different fighting mechanic in different situations. Boon says fighting while falling will be different than when you’re on the ground.

Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe will grace the PS3 and Xbox 360 in the Fall.

I’ve also heard mumblings that this installment of MK won’t have any of its classic fatalities. Whether that’s true or not has yet to be heard, but I mean, what’s Mortal Kombat without “FINISH HIM!”? But, you’d have to hand it to DC. Watching Superman torn limb from bloody limb would kind of put a damper on the whole indestructible superhero thin.

I thought Frank Miller and “The Death and Return of Superman” had already put a damper on the untouchable hero.

Frank Miller Dark Knight Returns Supes getting his *** beat by Batman with Kryptonite gloves, CLASSIC.

All in all even without the fatalities I’ll check this out ’cause I’m a comic book nut. Not really a fan of DC (Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is the shiz). But if they have Flash and Green Lantern in this, OR manage to get some characters from DC Vertigo (Hell Blazer?) or DC Wild Storm (Gen13, Planetary, THE AUTHORITY!!!), I’m sold I don’t care how the damn game plays
