Gears of War on paper, DC to publish new comic series
BY Mike WehnerApril 20th, 2008 More on:

Epic Games and DC Comics have dropped a bomb on the videogame industry. Well, not really, but it’s still a pretty cool little announcement for those of you who just can’t wait for the Gears sequel to come out to satisfy your hunger for dead locust. A brand-spanking-new comic series will be arriving in a short time based on the ongoing struggle of Delta Squad in the Gears of War universe. Gamers will get to see even more detail into the ever-endangered lives of Marcus Fenix and his crew as they proceed on their quest to save the world.

President of Epic Games, Michael Capps explains, “We are thrilled to be working with DC Comics to further bring to life the Gears of War universe,” he continues, “A lot of our developers are huge comic fans, and have loved the personas and chronicles unique to DC Comics since childhood. The Gears of War storyline and characters that millions of gamers have come to cherish will be a perfect fit under the WildStorm imprint.”

Gamers have been clamoring for new Gears info since, well, since the first one ended and this seems like just the thing to hold us over until the second game is set to release later this year. It does make you wonder though, how cross promotional things like this end up coming to pass. Are the Gears of War devs really that big of comic fans and they suggest, or was it merely a matter of Epic grasping at something to get the hoard of rabid fanboys to leave their parking lot? I guess the quality of the comic will have to speak for itself.
