Wii Sports was the perfect title to bundle with the Wii. It set the tone of the console and showed us what the Wii remote was capable of, while providing lasting appeal for almost all that bought the system. However, with just five sports covered it apparently wasn’t enough for Hudson Entertainment.
Hudson has released a new teaser trailer to remind us all about Deca Sports. This sports package has ten games – Beach Volleyball, Snowboard Cross, Badminton, Basketball, Curling, Figure Skating, Archery, Supercross, Soccer and Kart Racing – all using the Wii remote in unique ways, all including both single and multiplayer modes as well as a training mode.
The sports highlighted in the trailer are Beach Volleyball, Snowboard Cross and Figure Skating. Beach Volleyball seems to play a lot like Wii Tennis and Snowboard Cross has you twisting your wrist to control the downhill trek. In figure skating, players need to keep to the music and properly time all of their jumps and spins in order to impress the judges.
Integral to the popularity of Wii Sports was its cute aesthetic and accessibility. Deca Sports has done its darndest to replicate that but whether it can capture the zeitgeist and see success anywhere near that of Wii Sports, only time will tell. Deca Sports hits retail on May 13, 2008 at the nice price of $29.99.
