Updated / We Ski with Wii
BY Luke WalkerMay 5th, 2008 More on:

Nintendo is set to drop its next big money making innovation, Wii Fit, on May 21 in the US and May 25 in the Europe (update / available in Europe since April 25). Other than sporting a collection of games and exercises to keep you in shape as part of a daily routine, Wii Fit comes with the new Balance Board peripheral. So, for the millions that are set to buy this package (and already have in Japan), what else can this new peripheral do? What new games will be released to support the Nintendo Balance Board?

Namco Bandai has answered that question with We Ski. We Ski is a rated “E” family game supporting up to 4 players. To ski, players shift their weight left or right on the board and use the Wii remote and Nunchuk as stocks to speed up. The Wii remote and Nunchuk can also be used by turning side to side like skis without the Balance Board for control. The only bad thing is that when in multiplayer, everyone has to use this control scheme as the board can only be used in single-player mode.

Players will be able to create their own characters, outfitting them with different costumes, poles and goggles or they can import their own Miis. After creating and customizing their own characters, players get to enjoy a huge mountain resort with everything from bunny runs to Black Diamonds. Players can try out races, slaloms, freestyle challenges, ski school and night skiing with fireworks lighting the sky.

Todd Thorson, Director of Marketing and Public Relations for Namco Bandai Games America: “Namco Bandai has worked to create the most intuitive and responsive skiing game available, giving players a fully immersive experience.”

If you’re a skiing enthusiast or just need something else to use that new Balance Board with, for $29.99, We Ski just might be worth the look when it’s released next week, on May 13.

Hasn’t the rest of Europe got Wii Fit then? It’s out here in the UK…

That’s right, been out in EU since April 25. April and May were mixed up.
