Battlefront meets The Lord of the Rings

2008 game releases just keep getting better and better. Pandemic — now a division of EA and the same studio that made the best-selling Star Wars: Battlefront games — has gone Middle Earth, announcing the development of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and Nintendo DS.

Conquest is being developed as part of a partnership with New Line Cinema, so this Lord of the Rings universe will be the one you saw in the Peter Jackson films; rabid fans and gamers will be able to experience all of the trilogy’s epic movie battles. In addition to the crusading heroes, for the first time players can also experience an action title as the legions of Mordor including Cave-trolls, Oliphaunts, the Balrog and even Sauron himself.

Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager at Pandemic: “We’ll freely admit that we’re rabid fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy. Our experience creating massive, rich, action-packed games means that The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want – even if they choose to play from the evil side.”

The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is set for a global release this fall. For the first in-game footage and the trailer, check GameTrailers TV tonight. Until then, check out the first screenshots in the newly opened The Lord of the Rings: Conquest gallery.
