A Mummy summer coming our way
BY Luke WalkerMay 10th, 2008 More on:

Movie goers around the world will be blessed this summer with the third installment of The Mummy (fourth only if you count that Rock/Scorpion King thing), and with Jet Li as the bad guy, who could possibly want to miss this? And as it’s become tradition with every big movie release these days, gamers will also be able to dive into the series with The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor releasing alongside the movie.

This new the Mummy game puts players in the shoes of both Rick O’Connell and his son Alex. Sierra worked together with Universal Pictures to make sure the game followed closely with the movie, meaning players can expect to traverse the many exotic locations featured in the film, from ancient Chinese catacombs to the snow covered Himalayan peaks.

“Developed in collaboration with the film’s creative talent, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor videogame will add another opportunity for players to experience the thrill and excitement of this adventure favorite,” said Al Simone, senior vice president, Global Marketing, Sierra Entertainment.

The action-adventure gameplay will be in third-person and gamers can expect plenty of heavy gun play and hand-to-hand melee action O’Connell style. The game will include a fast and fluid combat system and an arsenal of weaponry to use against old and moldy walking dead things. Players will find their way through the game by utilizing combat, puzzle-solving and hieroglyphic decoding gameplay elements.

Tomb of the Dragon Emperor is expected at North American retailers July 22, in the UK August 8.

What’s so sad about all these movie games is that so many of them have the potential to be awesome. But instead, they’re just spat out with mediocre visuals and gameplay and as long as there’s some resemblance to the main character, the green light is given.
