Factor 5
It has all but been confirmed that Factor 5′s Wii game is to be a new installment of Kid Icarus, and if this is the case then Nintendo will certainly be the publisher. Factor 5′s previous game, the PS3-exclusive Lair was released in August 2007, so it will probably be well into 2009 before the game sees a release. After the critical mauling that Lair received, it will be interesting to see if Factor 5 can bounce back. The developer has always made great looking games; its Rogue Squadron GameCube games still look great, it’s normally the controls/mechanics where they have trouble. Anyone who played the on-foot missions in Rogue Squadron 3 will not have been surprised by Lair‘s wilful dragons.
The original Kid Icarus was a 2D side-scrolling action game, while Factor 5′s recent releases have all been flight games, so it will be intriguing to see what form Kid Icarus will take on the Wii. The developer has also suggested they wanted their games to be as accessible as possible, so Wii remote-only control will most likely also be supported. However, it’s still too early to tell whether this means light-gun or a NES style interface.
