Feast your eyes on the first trailer for the potential Rock Band killer, Guitar Hero World Tour. Even though this trailer shows no actual gameplay, it does give us some insight to the game’s features. There’s a Battle of the Bands mode, the largest set-list ever, and the ability to create your own singles. That’s all well and good, but the real star here is the drums. Activision has upped the ante and created a drum set with cymbals! That’s one small step for authenticity, one large kick in the face to Rock Band. If they can make these drums more enjoyable than Rock Band, then we may have a new rhythm game champion.
For the record, this game will be available this fall for the PS2, PS3, Xbox 360, DS, and Wii. We’ll also be getting the full rock experience in the way of guitar, bass, drums, and microphone. The only question now is, where am I going to put all this stuff?

I wonder if it will have nearly the impact on the market that Rock Band did. Then again everyone I know that has Rock Band only uses the guitar with the drums and microphone gathering dust in the corner…so perhaps neither have very much impact.

Wow. I’m getting pretty tired of the entire Guitar Hero thing. I love music and rhythm games and I was EXTREMELY excited when the original was released since I was into Japan’s GuitarFreaks. But now, I could really care less. There’s a new GH iteration every week it seems like. It’s getting so old, you know?

Oi, I just wish Activision wouldn’t have blatantly ripped off Rock Band and would have at least, AT LEAST, added something to the equation. I mean, keyboard would be kick ass. Or cowbell. Just saying.
I hope that the instruments are sold separately so you don’t have to buy it all in one set and that the Rock Band peripherals work with this game. I’m not slapping down $180 for another set of plastic instruments, but would be happy to buy those drums and give them a try while just playing with one of the three guitars I have and singing with the Rock Band mic.
