Age of Conan: Discussion on PvP

For anyone who still plans on trying the game, here is the class run down I promised, based on community feedback from a lot of players (including level 80′s) particularly in regards to PvP as it stands at this time. Last I checked, this info was not readily available anywhere else.

SOLDIER CLASSES:

  • Conquerer - Decent all around survivability and damage output, great in groups for buff and battle resurrection ability, so-so in 1v1
  • Guardian – Most survivable class, not a DPS (damage per second) class per say, but many say has impressive burst damage and good crowd control abilities…seems to be one of the classes performing “as intended,” might expect slight damage nerfing eventually
  • Dark Templar – “Unique and fun” to play, not very high hit points for a soldier class, offers little practical benefit to groups despite abilities, pretty good vs. melee, often “pwned” when fighting casters (Dark Templars have strong anti-caster abilities available at upper levels, but no extra resistance to spells, so they still usually die to casters)

PRIEST CLASSES:

  • Bear Shaman – Healer/melee hybrid of sorts with HOTs (heal over time spells), squishy with low hit points, but very survivable if played well (seems you can’t go wrong with any priest)
  • Tempest of Set – Healer/caster hybrid, nasty combination of healing, direct damage, and insane AOE (area of effect) spells, likely due for ANOTHER nerf (already received one)
  • Priest of Mithra – Considered to have slightly better heals than other priests, still has decent damage output as well as crowd control (even compared to Tempest of Set), and very good survivability

ROGUE CLASSES:

  • Assassin – Great DPS; however, very frustrating due to possibly lowest survivability of all classes (low hit points, no armor, lack of crowd control abilities)
  • Barbarian - Nasty burst damage, a little crowd control, are great at finishing off enemies quickly, but not too survivable in a drawn out fight, seems to be performing pretty closely to how they should, but may see more tweaks after recent “nerf”
  • Ranger - Great combination of PvP-friendly skills (tracking/stealth/ranged attack), good crowd control, recently received a slight nerf and seems to be performing now as intended

MAGE CLASSES:

  • Necromancer – Forces you to concentrate around using lots of ugly pets (melee or caster), crowd control is lacking, uses DOTs (damage over time spells) with the option of nuking some at a higher level, survivability very low without use of heavy kiting…damage output as well as crowd control among other things will likely be buffed soon
  • Demonologist – Nuker, extremely high single target DPS (thought not really better than Tempest of Set at the moment), good crowd control, pet seems to lack usefulness (or variety) at this time, survivability is very low…damage output among other things will likely be buffed soon
  • Herald of Xotli – “Very fun” to play, very high melee damage in demon form (if long combos don’t get interrupted), long time spent outside of demon form means overall survivability decreases in long drawn out PvP situations, lacking stuns/roots, PvP seems to be hit and miss
