Updated / The Conduit for Wii now officially official
BY Luke Walker Jun. 11th, 2008 More on:

Today, High Voltage Software “officially announced” The Conduit, the Wii-exclusive FPS everyone’s been so “ooh” and “aah” about. Though details of the game are already out there, as well as a tech demo and gameplay video, High Voltage was nice enough to give some extra information for us Wii owners to drool over.

High Voltage is using their proprietary Quantum 3 Engine, promising “fast and fluid gameplay with an advanced set of visuals intended to squarely establish the Wii as a true next-generation gaming platform.” Graphical features to look forward to are dynamic environment mapping, interactive water with real-time reflection, and four-stage texture composition including gloss, diffuse, and bump mapping.

There’s more to look forward to than Xbox 360 style graphics though, whatever that means. The Conduit has a full online multiplayer component as well as its single-player campaign. Also, the diverse weapons systems and control scheme have been built from the ground up for the Wii which provide “gameplay not possible on other platforms.”

“The Wii has tremendous potential,” said Kerry J. Ganofsky, CEO and founder of High Voltage Software, “We’ve invested heavily in our technology to make certain that potential is realized with The Conduit.”

We all hope that the work pays off, but we’ll have to wait till Q1 2009 to find out.

I haven’t played a Wii shooter since Metroid Prime, so I am looking forward to this. I can’t agree that it will be particularly generic, as I haven’t played many shooters in this vein.
