War made fun in Warbands - Rise of Baron Muntu
BY Jeremy Hill Jun. 11th, 2008 More on:

No one likes the sight of war. There’s way too many repercussions when two sides vow to kill as many people as possible. Well, that’s why we have videogames - so we can have all the spoils of war with none of the consequences (or messy clean up).

Warbands - Rise of Baron Muntu by Stimulus-response-games is a turn-based strategy game for the PC. It features comic style art which makes it stand out from the more serious RTS games on the market and can be picked up and played in quick bursts as it’s supposed to be “very easy to learn, yet difficult to master,” according to the press release that announced the game’s release.

Rise of Baron Muntu takes place in the land of Wardonia. It was a beautiful place complete with people frolicking through flowers and singing songs but it all came to a screeching halt when Baron Muntu came to town and enslaved its citizens. You play as a member of a resistance group, or Warband, to take down Muntu and restore peace.

The single-player campaign contains 25 seperate levels. You meet characters with memorable yet cliché names like Sergeant Pepper and Moley the Mole. The gameplay puts you in control of over 20 units for ground, sea, or air combat. There is also a multiplayer mode where you can go up against the AI, or 4 of your friends either locally or over the net.

If you want to give it a try, a demo is available for download (direct link). The full game itself costs roughly $20.
