LostWinds blowing away the competition in Europe
BY Luke WalkerJune 18th, 2008 More on:

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Laurent Fischer, head of European marketing for Nintendo (you remember him, right?) revealed that LostWinds is Europe’s most downloaded WiiWare title. Considering the widespread praise the game has received, Nintendo was right when they talked about WiiWare allowing developers to really come up with something new and “let their own personality and their own kind of unique interests really flourish in the games that they’re creating” - Shigeru Miyamoto.

LostWinds, developed by Frontier Developments, has you controlling the wind to solve puzzles and help guide a young villager in his quest to save his island from the evil Balasar. This 2D platformer has 3D backgrounds and foregrounds making it as, if not more, visually appealing than some full priced Wii games out there. The game has received all around high review scores and already has a sequel in the works.

WiiWare’s success depends on fresh ideas instead of just remakes, and Fischer knows that, “we’re looking forward to having more proposals from other developers around the world to see the new gaming concepts we’re been hoping for.”

The game really was great, and the best thing is the scope for improvement in the sequel.
