It’s finally here, Lightsaber duels on the Wii!
BY Luke WalkerJune 19th, 2008 More on:

Hey gamers! No, strike that. Hey WORLD! Do you know where you’ll be this Friday night? I’ll tell you where you should be — tuning in on the world exclusive trailer for the new Star Wars game for Wii (and DS, though not nearly as important) airing on “Gametrailers TV with Geoff Keighley.”

New Star Wars game? Yup, THE new Star Wars game. Potentially the one that all Star Wars fans have been hoping for since Nintendo announced their new control scheme for their little Revolution. LucasArts has announced Star Wars The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels for the Wii. The game is being developed by Krome Studios, the same house that’s doing the new Hellboy: The Science of Evil, and has been built from the ground up featuring “an intuitive motion-controlled combat system that puts the Lightsaber weapon in your hand for non-stop fun.”

Based on the upcoming animated series and the feature film, Lightsaber Duels has you fighting through the most memorable battles from The Clone Wars. Play against friends as Anakin Skywalker and General Gievious or new characters like Ahsoka Tano and Asaji Ventress. Each character has different fighting styles and skills. You can also use the interactive environments to your advantage. Players will be able to slice apart pillars and Force hurl them at your enemies.

Also announced is the new Star Wars The Clone Wars: Jedi Alliance for the DS. This game is developed by the LucasArts Singapore team in conjunction with Lucasfilm Animation. Players will control a Jedi and Padawan team via the stylus through a completely original story that expands upon The Clone Wars series on the DS.

No word yet on futher control details, so we don’t know for sure that this will be the true 1:1 Lightsaber mastery that we’ve been waiting for. Feargus Carroll, project lead for LucasArts Singapore says, “The intuitive and accessible gameplay on both the Wii and the Nintendo DS complement one of the most exciting Star Wars adventures yet,” so there is hope.

I saw the trailer for the new animated movie when I went to see The Incredible Hulk, and I quite like the style of the visuals. The success of this game is massively dependent on the controls. The way Krome handle the port of Force Unleashed should give us a good idea of what to expect from this game.

This has been a long time coming.

Yeah, but I’d likely be put in a mental hospital if I had to put up with that for a middle name. ;) Good thing I’m a Star Wars fan.
I’m confused though on The Force Unleashed. I really want it for the Wii, with the motion controls and duel content, but being able to take on the Jedi trials on the PS2 version sounds really cool. Maybe I’ll just rent that one.
