VC and WiiWare releases for the week of 6/30/08
BY Matthew RazakJune 30th, 2008 More on:

I thought it would take a bit longer for Nintendo to drop down to a two game schedule again since WiiWare promised at least one game a week and the general norm for the Virtual Console had been two games a week, but here we are with only two games being released this week. Magnetica Twist (Nintendo, 1-4 players, Rated E for Everyone-Comic Mischief, 1,000 Wii Points) will be the WiiWare game and FATAL FURY 2 (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, Rated T for Teen-Animated Blood, Violence, 900 Wii Points) is the VC game. This lower game release might be because some of that extra content for My Life as a King is being released this week, but I still say it’s a bit of a disappointment.

As for the new games, Magnetica Twist is simply the impressively addictive Magnetica but with a literal twist in that you twist the Wii remote to move your reticle in order to shoot the constantly progressing marbles. It also uses Miis! Plus there is the…stuff. I’m trying to be excited here but it isn’t working. Marbles, old game, lame Mii addition - this is not the WiiWare I signed up for.

Now, in any other situation I’d be pumped for a little FATAL FURY 2, but the VC has been on such a fighter/beat em’ up/NEOGEO kick that it seems like just another fighting game in a long line of great fighting games. Of course it isn’t that, it’s an amazing fighter, but so were the last four or five the VC has had in the past few weeks. Where are the RPGs, the great platformers, the racing games? Where the hell is Mario RPG?  Come on Nintendo, variety is the spice of life.

Games live at 9 a.m. Pacific time, but you knew that.
