You may recall that earlier, we reported the news on a supposed Castlevania title for Wii and it taking the series from its side-scrolling 2D roots into the realm of 3D fighting. Well lo and behold, Konami has now officially confirmed that Castlevania Judgement will be making its way to the Wii this fall.
The game will be available exclusively on the Wii and is developed by Koji “Iga” Igarashi. You’ll be able to play several generations of the Belmont family against a who’s who roster of characters that will cover the entire franchise history since its inception.
“We wanted to take this addition to the signature Konami franchise in a direction that really sets it apart from the previous Castlevania titles in the series,” said Anthony Crouts, Konami’s Vice President of Marketing. “The Wii Remote and Nunchuk capabilities, along with the iconic characters, make this game the ideal entry point into the fighting game genre. This combination is certain to thrill old and new fans of the franchise. ”
Characters will be designed by manga artist Takeshi Obata, and players will be able to choose to fight on the side of good or evil. Players will have their choice from a variety of classic weapons and will also have to contend with different stage elements while trying to beat up on their opponent. The game will also feature multiplayer online elements and connectivity with Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia for DS.

For anyone that doubts Konami’s development ability in the realm of fighters you really need to check out TMNT: TOURNAMENT FIGHTERS for SNES. I played that when it was out and it was stellar, not sure how it holds up today, but if that’s any indication of the level of development we can expect from a Konami “fighter” sign me up!

I love Castlevania, have since I was a kid, and though I prefer the newer Metroid style like SOTN the recent 3D games have a very good combo systems. If they can carry that over to this then it really could be purchase worthy.
I haven’t played TMNT: Tournament Fighters, but I’ll check it out online to see what you’re talking about.
