The PS3’s potentially harmful recent update gives developers the option of patching Trophies into their games. Developers for Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Burnout Paradise, and Warhawk have already pledged their allegiance to adding Trophies to their games in the future, however some other developers, like Insomniac Games and Infinity Ward, have said they will not be adding Trophies to Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, respectively.
Infinity Ward’s Community Manager posted on the company’s official forum saying, “At this time, we have no plans to patch in Trophy support for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare for the PS3. Much like DualShock rumble addition to the PS3, the support for these new features have come much to late for us to add it to Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare due to our current production schedule,” adding that they would have loved t include Trophies if the support was available at launch, or shortly after. Although there’s been some speculation, what that current production schedule entails isn’t known at the moment.
It seems the bulk of Trophy supported games will come from games coming out in the future, meaning it may take some time for the Trophy system to begin to pose the slightest threat to Microsoft’s Achievements when it comes to the number of games supported.
