Get ’em while you can! It seems the retail giant Target has decided not to wait until the anticipated E3 price drop announcement and went ahead and discounted the Xbox 360 Pro model to $299. The rumors of an Xbox 360 price drop have been flowing around the interwebs for weeks now so it’s no surprise that someone jumped the gun.
With games like Metal Gear Solid 4 and the new 2.41 firmware update giving the PS3 a bit of a boost in the sales department, Microsoft needed to do something to spur some Xbox 360 sales and this would appear to be the best way to do that. The price drop put the Xbox 360’s Premium unit just $50 above the Wii’s price point, so it should be interesting if this impacts Nintendo’s console sales in any way. At this point, we don’t know whether or not the Xbox 360 Arcade version at $279 would be fazed out, or discounted further, but with the Pro version just $20 away, something is bound to change. There’s been no official announcement of the 360’s price drop from Microsoft themselves, but this slip would appear to overrule any denial on their part.
However, with no confirmation from MS, this might all turn out to be a mistake. In which case you should rush down to your local Target store and pick up a brand new console, or two… now.
