After the years of speculation, it has finally been confirmed that Final Fantasy XIII will be landing on the Xbox 360 alongside the much-anticipated PS3 version. This announcement came at the tail end of Microsoft’s E3 press conference and really got the crowd on their feet.
Over and hour and a half into the conference, Square Enix’s Yoichi Wada took the stage and gave us a bunch of new info about three upcoming RPGs for the Xbox 360 in the form of Star Ocean, Infinite Undiscover, and The Last Remnant, but nothing was mentioned about Final Fantasy. Wada relinquished the stage to Mr. Mattrick once again, but just before Mattrick was about to close the show, Wada returned with one more “big” announcement. It was then that he dropped the bomb and announced that Final Fantasy XIII would be coming to the Xbox 360.
The Final Fantasy series has long been a Playstation-committed brand with just a few ports landing on other consoles. This changes the entire landscape of the JRPG world, however, as the PlayStation 3 looses one of (if not THE) marquee titles for the system. We’re not sure how Sony is going to take this announcement, but they better have something up their sleeve tomorrow morning for their own E3 press conference.

Great news, or greatest news? Now, if only they’d port MGS4, I won’t have to buy a PS3!

I really hope Sony and Nintendo come up with the goods tomorrow. I was watching the live stream and MS seemed to have done a real good job - I have to hand it to them; their marketing strategy is pretty good. But I own a Wii and I’m picking up a PS3 this week, so both companies better announce something good…like a free HDTV! Naaah, ‘Home’ would be nice from Sony and a new Pikmin game from Ninty.
