With two popular titles on the PlayStation 2 and one on the PSP, we all knew it would only be a matter of time before the God of War series made its way to the PlayStation 3. Today our suspicions were confirmed when, towards the end of Sony’s E3 press conference, the first God of War III trailer was shown.

If you’re hoping to see gameplay footage or any glimpse of what the gameplay will be like, you might be dissapointed, as the featured trailer is 100% pre-rendered. What it does reveal instead is that the title will take over where God of War II ended, with Kratos ascending Mount Olympus to take vengeance on Zeus and the surviving gods. God of War III hasn’t been given a release date yet, but taking fact that there was no gameplay in the trailer into consideration, we’d say it’s a safe bet that we won’t see get to control Kratos again until 2009.
