With Microsoft’s and Nintendo’s E3 press conferences now behind us, there’s just one more of the big three to go - Sony’s. Do they have some kind of an announcement up their sleeve, one that would rival that of Microsoft’s Avatars/Dashboard re-imagining and the Final Fantasy XIII megaton, will we get a solid release date for the public beta of Home’s , will we see the rumored break-away controller? Let’s find out!
- Event begins very nicely, 7 bigger screens (and many many little ones under each of them) on stage showing all kinds of games from both the PS3 and PSP: BioShock, LBP, RE5, Socom, Madden, Killzone 2, Force Unleashed etc etc.
- Jack Trenton takes the stage, says they’ve spent months on this conference, had a 12-hour practice last night, says they have the “biggest exclusives in the industry,” goes over the history of the PlayStation brand.
- “Genre-defining kick ass games,” “kickass software.”
- Resistance 2 gameplay showed, Ted Price of Insomniac appears on-stage to talk about the game, story, 8-player co-op, and community features. Trailer showed.
- Trenton on-stage again, it’s LittleBigPlanet’s turn. LBP level used to illustrate a few points like graphs (very nicely done btw).
- “Greatest Hits” announced (Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk, Assassin’s Creed, Oblivion etc for $29.99).
- PS2’s turn - “biggest games, most popular titles.” 130 new titles coming in 2008, reel runs showing upcoming PS2 games like Force Uneleashed, Tiger Woods, Singstar Pop vol 2, Yakoza 2, Mercenaries 2.
- Buzz for PS3 in September.
- PS2 LEGO Batman bundle announced for $149.
- Time to see what PLAYSTATION Network has in store for us. Unified account coming.
- 180 million downloads from PS Store.
- Ratchet & Clank Future Quest for Booty coming to PSN this summer for $14.99.
- Another reel runs, showing off PSN exclusives.
- Trenton talks about GT TV, reel runs.
- Trenton talks Trophies, ‘calling bs on friends bragging’
- Time for PS Home, reel runs showing off different spaces themed after different games (Uncharted, Warhawk, Resistance).
- Trenton talks Video Store, buying and renting TV shows, movies (SD/HD, previews available). Video Store demoed, looks just like PS Store with a different color scheme. Video Store will be available tonight. New titles to be added each week.
- PSP time. Trenton talks of PSP slim launch, different PSP/game bundles.
- New PSP bundle coming in October: Ratchet & Clank Size Matters for $199.
- PSP’s Resistance Retribution trailer showed.
- PSP reel runs, showing upcoming 2008/2009 titles.
- PSP “not just a nice handheld device,” “hybrid device”
- Back to PS3! “..set to deliver an entirely new experience”, “Life with PlayStation.” Uploads to YouTube, news, webcam, weather..
- Jim Lee takes the stage, does a few one handed push-ups and talks about SOE’s upcoming DC Universe Online. Reel runs, showing different DC legends in action.
- 80GB now a primary focus, to have same functionality as the 40GB, for $399.99.
- Reel runs of developers talking about how cool the PS3 is (Ubisoft, LucasArts, Treyarch etc) ” a lot of unused potential,” “just starting to scratch the surface”
- “23 exclusives for PS3,” reel runs showing LBP, MotorStorm Pacific Rift, MGS4, Socom, Ghostbusters, Quantum of Solace, Soul Calibur IV Resistance 2, Mirror’s Edge, Resident Evil 5, Singstar, Killzone 2 etc etc.
- God of War III for PS3 officially, and casually, announced. Trailer shown (no gameplay).
- Trenton remind us about inFAMOUS, trailer showed (partly in-game). Will come in Spring 2009.
- Trenton wants to talk about one final title, a brand new title from Zipper Interactive — Massive Action Game (MAG). Up to 256 player battles (wtf?) — broken down to 8-player squads, on-going faction-based campaigns, “character growth.” Trailer shown, looks pre-rendered but cool.
- Trenton ends the show.
