Sources say MGS4 on Xbox 360 ‘inevitable’ |

VG247 has heard from an un-named (but very high on the totem pole) UK industry source that Konami will be bringing Metal Gear Solid 4 to the 360, eventually. The anonymous source is quoted as saying, “There’s only MGS left now, for a few months at least. It’s inevitable. Konami knows how many million they’d sell in the US alone. If FFXIII can make it to 360 when Sony owns nine percent of Square, Metal Gear’s a slam dunk.”
That sounds like it makes a lot of sense, but when you consider the fact that Hideo Kojima himself has said the game is a PS3-exclusive, and is said to push the storage capacity of Blu-ray media to the max, you might want to take this meal of information with a lot of sodium. And then you get this nice little quip from Jack Tretton letting you know what’s what, stating: “Metal Gear Solid is not only exclusive on PS3 – it’s only possible on PS3, thanks in part to Blu-ray.“ But the way we see it, the area is just too gray to call — many figured Final Fantasy XIII would’ve never seen the light of day on the 360 and well, look what happened.

Of course it is inevitable. Does anyone really think that Konami is getting adequate returns on their MGS4 investment with just the PS3 userbase? It defies economic logic to think that they wont make the title go multi-platform. Rising development costs necessitate it for most developers.

Konami WILL turn a profit just from PS3 sales. Get a calculator and divide the $25-$40 million the game cost by the $20+ per sale that Konami sees, and they may already be in the black. (sales are over 2 million already.) Plus, the game is bundled with PS3 and that will drive sales if Sony continues the bundle.
Of course they’d make MORE profit from a 360 port. Question is, will it match or even approximate the experience you could have on PS3. If it doesn’t, Kojima probably won’t want to port it. Konami might force the porting anyway, of course.

Well with the recent announcement of Xbox 360 allowing games to do be downloaded to the HD, a bigger HD coming, I really think this rumor has a chance of being founded. I mean in the end if it’s released on the 360 it’s pretty much guaranteed at least a million more sales. From a business standpoint it makes too much sense. So I agree with you both, even though the game will turn a profit maybe the allure of earning even more will entice Konami.

I meant to say and a bigger HD coming (the 60 gig which is soon to replace the normal arcade which is being phased out).

@mikus
what makes you think they get $20 per sale? that’s a lot more than the industry average.
take a look at this

After having finishing the game on the solid normal difficulty level last week, and watching every single cut scene that there was on this game, I really don’t see why people continue to state that this game is only possible on the PS3. While I realize that the game itself comes on a Blu-Ray disc which holds 50 gigs, if you stop and think about it the majority of that space went to dialog. And to say that if the game did come to the 360, then it would have to be split throughout several DVD’s and you’d have to switch discs, I don’t see any difference between switching a disc and waiting the several minutes it takes for each act to install to my PS3 before I can play through it.
I say all of this to make the point that while MGS4 was said to be exclusive to only the PS3, that was said for several big name titles so far this generation. Whether or not if Microsoft is willing to pay extra to help entice developers to port/develop for their system or not, with the announcement at E3 that FFXIII is coming over to the 360, I would not be surprised in the slightest if within the next 6 to 8 months if we don’t either have some version of MGS4 already on 360 or at least the announcement that one is on the way.

It’s gonna be a little more difficult than a normal port, not only because of the space required, but because a lot of content would have to be changed, from the ps3 controller used to control the MK II to the various sony quips throughout the game, and the little posters and other various ingredients throughout the game that mark it as a sony title.

If you think that metal gear is coming to 360 then you really need to think again
Its not just a simple case of, oh, here you go konami, there is x amount of dollars, do a port for us, its gonna be much more difficult than that,
There are so many little things throughout the game that would need to be changed, from sunny setting up her ps3 and playing on her psp in the nomad during cutscenes, to all the apple products (MAIN MICROSOFT RIVALS) dotted around the game (computers/laptops, the ipod, all the dowloadable tracks for your ipod) mentioning the blue ray disc and the ps3 in certain cutscenes, plenty of sony related dialogue, the list goes on.
Its going to be a real job, and a job that will cost them quite some money, and take away some of that little sparkle that addes to the whole mgs4 experience.
Then there is the constant flashbacks and visions of things from mgs1, 2 and 3, its just inconceivable that the xbox will be getting this game any time soon, if ever.
Its a brilliant game, one of the best out there today, and i am sure it would also be good on the 360, but for a few extra bucks, i cant see konami and kojima himself selling sony down the river on this one, if it comes to the xbox, expect it to be in about 3-4 years, and on several discs, and it certainly wont have the same appeal and fanbase, or be as epic as it is for the playstation 3.
In short, it would be to much work, to many changes, and to unethical to allow m$ to wade in with all their cash and just buy out another exclusive.
