Operation Flashpoint 2 facts on a sheet
BY Mike WehnerJuly 17th, 2008 More on:

In the days leading up to, and including E3, Codemasters has been particularly generous with their information on new products. This is, of course, to be expected since it’s that time of the year when all the developers try to build up some hype for their upcoming products. One game that will surely have no problem gaining a fair bit of hype is Operation Flashpoint 2.

OFP2 is being touted by Codemasters as “the most realistic modern military conflict game”, and with games like Call of Duty 4 already saturating the market, those are some pretty big words to live up to. Some of the features being highlighted by Codemasters’ latest info packet include the diverse perspectives you will inhabit during the course of the game. Those roles include an infantry marine, helicopter pilot, Special Forces officer as well as a tank commander. Players will also have a vast battlefield in which to engage in combat.  Up to 135 square miles of terrain are at the player’s fingertips which is sure to produce a number of different tactical options with which to attack.

Operation Flashpoint 2 is slated to come out for the Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and of course PC sometime next year. And as the months fly by, we’re sure to get some more media, including actual screenshots, and details surrounding this title, so be sure to check back as we’ll have all the latest info.

Yup yup, this is definitely something I’m looking forward to, the war junkie I am. Hopefully they’ll be ready to show some actual gameplay soon, sounded pretty confident it’d end up looking like these shots in a recent interview. Can’t wait.

I actually think Operation Flashpoint is the best (or one of the best) PC games of all time. I have no doubts Codemaster will pull this off.

I bought Armed Assault because I too was a fan of Operation Flashpoint. First thing I did was try out the helicopters in the game and it was grossly disappointing for how much of a sim the game tries to be. I enjoyed the helicopters in BF2 and Joint Operations a lot more. I didn’t even try the rest of the game because of how disappointed I was in that one aspect (which is a pretty big aspect for me, considering I spent 90% of my play time in the other two mentioned titles flying in a helicopter).

I wonder if OFP2 will be any better in this department since the original OFP was developed in conjunction with Bohemia Interactive. Hopefully Codemasters can take this game in a better direction.
