Faking the Band - Trent Reznor, take two. [July 22]
BY Jason R. WallaceJuly 22nd, 2008 More on:

Faking the Band is a weekly feature detailing the latest in downloadable content for Rock Band.

Let’s try this again, shall we?

Back in February of this year, a Nine Inch Nails Pack was released for Rock Band, including the songs “March of the Pigs,” “The Collector” and “The Perfect Drug.” The speeds, complexity and unusual time signatures of the songs provided armchair drummers with quite the challenge, but most guitarists, bassists and singers were left a bit cold, what with half-sparse, half-cramped strings and an overall screaming aesthetic. Of course, that doesn’t even take into account the minor uproar caused by the so-called “piano solo” in “The Collector.”

Needless to say, opinions on the pack’s quality and appropriateness were divided, but Harmonix is giving industrial rock a second shot with today’s DLC. The second NIN Pack features “Last” and “Burn,” two songs from Reznor’s earlier, arguably heavier period circa 1994, plus the track “Capital G” from last year’s futurist, conceptual Year Zero.

If all that just sounds like grinding cogs to you, then you’re in luck. The Jacksonville hard rock outfit Shinedown is offering two singles for a more straightforward mindset: “Devour” and the never-before-released “Junkies For Fame.”

NIN Pack 02 [160 MS points per song / 440 for pack / all masters]
