Ed Boon shows off Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
BY Ricardo Bilton Jul. 30th, 2008 More on:

Gameplay footage from Comic-Con ‘08 shows off a number of new and interesting gameplay elements in Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, the eighth entry in the Mortal Kombat series. The video shows off the close combat (or should it be klose kombat?) mode, which is initiated with a grab, and ends either when the defender breaks out of the attack or the aggressor pulls off enough hits. Free fall is similar, allowing players to brawl and change positions multiple times as they fall from one arena to another.

The video features footage of Flash, Sonya, Catwoman, Shang Tsung, Batman, and Sub-Zero, as well as a very impressive sequence of Superman steamrolling Scorpion through a series of concrete walls.

Creative director Ed Boon quickly answers the pivotal question of how anyone could survive in a fight against Superman, noting that Superman has two weaknesses - kryptonite…and magic. “Since the Mortal Kombat universe has a rich background in sorcery and magic,” Boon says, “this brings Superman down to a more level playing field.”

Can’t argue with that.

I know you’re joking about klose kombat but they seriously spell combo “kombo” in the game. When I saw it come up I looked at the dev guy and he was like “Yea, not my idea.”
