Braid will not have a sequel

The recently released Braid on Xbox LIVE Arcade has been getting accolades and rave reviews, so one would expect a title so well received to have some sort of sequel or DLC coming down the pipeline, right? Well, don’t get your hopes up. Jonathan Blow, the artist and designer of the game, has gone on the record to say that he is “…not going to do a sequel to Braid” no matter “how many copies it sells.” There may be a glimmer of hope in the future though as Blow also goes on to say, “…maybe in five years when I’m motivated, I have a really fresh idea for it.” But as of now all bets are off.

So why no sequel? Blow chalked some of it up to Microsoft’s royalty adjustment rates that would cut down his take of the game’s bounty significantly. The adjusted rate was rumored to slice the royalties of developers in half, to which Blow stated: “If it’s as I’ve heard that it is, I couldn’t even necessarily break even.”
