Faking the Band - Beep! Beep! Badass! [August 12]

Faking the Band is a weekly feature detailing the latest in downloadable content for Rock Band.

A recent poll on the Rock Band website asked gamers what sort of tracks they’d like to see as DLC. While no one category took a commanding lead, “heavy and extreme metal” counted for 21% of the rocking audience,  a sizeable chunk and second only to “classic rock hits.” Today’s six-pack from Roadrunner Records gladly gratifies that headbanging percentage.

Everyone knows that, in this day and age, there are many flavors of metal, and this pack certainly pulls a Baskin-Robbins and covers a great deal of them. The straight-forward shredders will enjoy this week’s thrash offerings, what with Megadeth’s “Sleepwalker” and Machine Head’s “Aesthetics of Hate” keeping things fast and aggressive. The more melodic and yet mosh-friendly set will appreciate the metalcore and melodeath entries: “My Curse” from Killswitch Engage and “Clouds Over California” from DevilDriver. Those waxing nostalgic for the hard rock stylings of AC/DC and Motörhead will welcome Australia’s own Airborne with “Runnin’ Wild.” Finally, the players unafraid of odd time signatures and complex, almost classical compositions will get caught up in Dream Theater’s “Constant Motion.”

Yet another reason to throw up the horns today: this six-pack of tracks is discounted for the first month! Gamers on a budget will love the limited-time pricing, but they’ve got to act fast, otherwise this deal with drop faster than Portnoy’s double-bass pedal!

Roadrunner Pack 1 [80 MS points per song / 480 for pack / all masters]

NOTE: Will revert to 160 MS points per song / 800 for pack after one month!

I love Constant Motion, nice to see that they’re continuing to release quality material.
