US drivers in for a LittleBigSurprise
BY Thom DinsdaleAugust 13th, 2008 More on:

Sony has announced that to help push its upcoming powerhouse of cute, user-generated fun that goes by the name of LittleBigPlanet it will be littering the US with small yard signs advertising Media Molecule-developed game. Named Little-Big-Billboards, they will be about the size of a small yard sign and stuck in the ground in the Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York areas.

You could be forgiven for thinking that these are just going to be some run of the mill, cardboard signs hammered in the ground every 200 yards but oh no! They will feature working lights, ladders and other top-notch design elements. There is an obvious risk that some of these little public displays could be stolen. Sony are unfazed by the prospect however, claiming that having a few of the stolen billboards appear on eBay may even add to the hype.

The billboards are the brainchild of the game’s agency Deutsch, and the hope is that these signs will help push the game to the very forefront of the public mind and drum up some real hype around the game. Sony not only needs this title to succeed, but they need it to shift hardware, especially if 2008 is going to be the ‘year of the PlayStation 3.’

Little Big Planet launches globally this October.
