Best of GC 2008 awards handed out
BY Mike Wehner Aug. 24th, 2008 More on:

The 6th consecutive “Best of GC” awards were handed out for the best showings at this year’s conference. Below you’ll find the complete list of winners, let the drooling begin.

  • Best PS3 game - LittleBigPlanet (Sony)
  • Best Xbox 360 game - Mirror’s Edge (EA)
  • Best Wii game - Skate It (EA)
  • Best PC game - Spore (EA)
  • Best PSP game - Resistance: Retribution (Sony)
  • Best DS game - Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood (SEGA)
  • Best Mobile game - PES 2009 (Konami)
  • Best Online game - Warhammer Online: Day of Reckoning (Mythic)

There you have it, the winners in all their glory. I think it’s rather telling that nearly half of the titles on that list are EA properties. Perhaps the dreaded EA isn’t as bad as everyone thinks?

Over half of the titles belong to EA not because EA isn’t so bad, it’s because it seems as if EA is releasing over half of all game titles these days (because they have $$$). EA = less competition in the market, which is never a good thing for customers in any industry I know of. How many good development studios have been hurt by EA takeover?

There really should be some sort of anti-trust governing body or SOMETHING. It can only lead to gamers heading to Gamestop to buy products instead of actual games. They get millions, we get crap/bland games, developers get less reason to innovate.

Wasn’t Mirror’s Edge only shown using the PS3 hardware since it is the lead platform and all. There wasn’t a playable version on the 360 on GC right?
