Update / CoD5 is better than CoD4, vehicles and attack dogs confirmed

The first part of that title is purely subjective, but according to the article in the upcoming issue of GamePro that reader Mobius0077 posted in our Community Discussions area, it is entirely true. That’s right, the subheader of the article claims that from the time they spent with Call of Duty: World at War it is actually better than Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. After reading the article and pretending it wasn’t a total fluff piece I can see where they’re coming from. I mean, it does seem like World at War is going to have everything that CoD4 did, but with more. It is running on the CoD4 engine, features a similar multiplayer and sounds like it took some lessons from CoD4’s story. I’m just a little skeptical since the current track record for Call of Duty games is that Infinity Ward makes the good ones and Treyarch makes the ones in between the good ones.

It does look like they’re adding some potentially awesome stuff into the game though. We all saw the flamethrower in the trailer, but finding out that it’ll be a nice little perk upgrade (one of 15 new ones) in the RPG-like multiplayer makes me happy, especially when GamePro says that the flamethrower is the best they’ve ever experienced. That is just a personal favorite really, I think more people will be looking forward to being able to send out attack dogs to slaughter their enemies. Yup, now those pesky dogs from CoD4 can be on your side, like some sort of horrible air strike of fur and teeth. The dogs are multiplayer reward, along with a recon plane and an artillery strike, that players receive for killing a certain number of people in a row without dying. Death by dog is going to have to be one of the most embarrassing ways to go in gaming ever.

Finally, it looks like the game is just going to be full of a lot more explosions and killing: the opening paragraph is about crawling through a bloody field of bodies and then an air strike blowing up some buildings, the rocket launchers are going to do way more damage, and the weapons are basically described as devastating at every turn. We don’t have images of the whole article so this might be a bit premature, but it doesn’t sound like the stealthy gameplay of the SAS troops in CoD4 will be making a comeback, at least not in the multiplayer. Kind of dissapointing to me, but who needs stealth when you can drive a massive tank around. Yup, driveable tanks are confirmed.

Update: Oh, and I totally missed that GamePro is holding a contest for the multiplayer beta of the game. I doubt anyone doesn’t want to get into that. They say all you have to do is head over to win.gamepro.com/callofduty, but the site isn’t up yet. Most likely because the magazine is just out, but it’s always good to get a heads up on these things. Pre-orders may also get you into the beta too.

I am not convinced after I read that gamepro have a competition for the multiplayer BETA?! I could have sworn that everyone was nearly 90% not going to happen lol. I do hope that this is all real and things will be looking up.

Attack dogs? Man, I hate those things. Maybe I’ll like them more when they’re not chasing me.

Well i pre-ordered from Gamestop. And they took my e-mail to get a code for a BETA. So i will post here if that ever happens. Sounds like it will be up to par or better that COD4. Bug shoes to fill though.

i loved COD4… it was just such a well made game. I’ve seen every trailer and video regarding COD5 and NONE of them have excited me to play it. It’s like “great…. but its WWII.” What Treyarch fails to realize isn’t just that people are tired of fighting the never ending nazis, but that they’re tired of the WHOLE SCENE. Nobody wants to run around shooting THOMPSONS anymore or even less accurate single shooting guns. What made COD4 so great was being able to customize your weapons; red dots, silencers, scopes… modern customization.

This game will fail, because the only people interested in playing another WW2 shooter, is the people making it

I kinda agree with Ryan. I think people are fed up with WW2 shooters being re-hashed every year. They should wait a few years. Or even focus on the pacific, cos personally I thought EA did a bad job with MOH: Rising Sun, but plenty of potential there.

Cod4 was an wsome game as i still play it, but i thought, with so many awards won with cod4they should have let them ” infinity awards ” design and build cod 5 as no were near as good as 4 i think we have a dud boys and girls. i just dont find it interesting at all as i nearly threw my self of the verandah when i had finished it.still very short and to easy as played it on hardened maybe have to go to veteran.

really i have played cod4 and 5 and i am on a tetertoter it goes both ways the muti plaier is a some and i love it but no coop and that is a MAJOR FLAW they took a step back there but they took one forward on 5 so i think 5 is better all around they should have slowly went up the chain of events and gone into more detail on the war. NOT so you learned somthing but maybe played as 2 people not six or 5 2 then you go though more battles and life style like do stuff don’t just sit there clean your gun and drink your heart out no you need to show the ups and downs of war and that is what i thought they need to do i play the cod series and i beat each on in 3 days or less all except finest hour with took 5 days to beat. they were easy strait forward and good control set up i loved each one but they were too easy. they need to be harder and no dificult settings have one hard no extreame but that way some one isn’t just going though the game with just a pistol or somthing. but enough beating around the bush i say 5 beats 4 because of coop and multi player because of the story line sure there are more heroic moments in 4 but 5 has beter settings like coop. i give 4 a 6 out of possible 10 and 5 a 9 out of 10

now i don’t listen to the big game raters because the do it on story line and all that if you have fun playing it it should be a good game i don’t care if it doesn’t have hd graphs or what ever (they are nice don’t get me wrong) but if you have fun playing a game it doesn’t matter what the blood looks like if theres blood good but i don’t want it to look live like it is nice but it isn’t nessicary so if you have fun playing the game in multi or single player it is a good game but they should rate it on what the players think not the big game companies.
