MadWorld completely “at home” on the Wii

In a recent interview with CVG, Platinum Games’ Atsushi Inaba stated that MadWorld, the ultra-violent, stylized beat-em up “really suited Wii.” Explaining that the pick-up and play aspects of the game were a perfect fit for the Wii and that the violence and adult content isn’t what should define whether or not a game should be a match for the the system. Blood, guts and cartoonish violence at home on the Wii? Yes, yes and yes, please.

“We’re really interested in the Wii platform so we wanted to create a really cool and stylish game for that,” said Inaba. “As you can see [from our Leipzig presentation] it’s really easy to pick up and play so when we came up with the concept of Mad World the Wii felt like a good console for that. It feels like a game that is at home on Wii.”

I’m all for the Wii kicking its family friendly image as some of the best games that have come out for the system have nothing to do with family (on a side note: buy No More Heroes now). Hopefully more designers start coming out and seeing that it’s the gameplay that needs to feel at home on the Wii and not the content. Any game, pertaining to any subject can be at home on they Wii, designers just have to stop shoving crap into it.
