Aerosmith is rich thanks to Guitar Hero
BY Steve Gilhool Sep. 18th, 2008 More on:

According to Activision’s CEO, Bobby Kotick, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith has made more money for the band than any of its albums. He even went so far as to say (via MTV Multiplayer blog) that the band’s continuing success is thanks in large part to his company’s product (shameless self-promotion ahead!): “[Their] version of Guitar Hero generated far more in revenues than any Aerosmith album ever has…. Merchandising, concert sales, their ability to sign a new contract [have] all been unbelievably influenced by their participation in Guitar Hero.”

Considering the Aerosmith edition of Guitar Hero wasn’t exactly burning up the sales charts, this is certainly good news for musicians. However, it’s terrible news for the consumer if it encourages Activision to continue to release consumer-unfriendly discs and to eschew the “music platform” model of the competitor.
